The View From Underneath
Last night I dreamt I was a little toad
Developing within a ringlet of an egg mass
So beautiful it could have been worn, a lace of pearls
Underwater, absorbing the world around me
The lush green pond weeds and lily slowly emerging
I bring my gaze upward, toward the sun
It was so round and golden and beautiful
It filled my vision
In the periphery, a log with a turtle seated atop
Majestic, sunning with limbs stretched out
A body painted with bright yellow patterns, unique and heavenly
I watched as she brought her head forward
Silhouetted against the sun
A halo
As she became a goddess
And I the worshipper
Mesmerized and consumed by the endlessness, radiance
Is this revolution or a revelation
The world above
Stirring something within, a quickening
Wishing for my eventual evolution
To emerge from the depths
And one day be spotlighted in the sun
A goddess worthy of someone’s praise
Even if I am only a toad
I still have dreams
And the world is full of beauty

Beautiful poem, and I love the froggie!
